The opening 45 brought plenty of intent from United but no breakthrough. The best chance fell to Joshua Zirkzee, who met Amad’s cross a few yards out, only for former Red Aaron Wan Bissaka to hack it off the line.

United kept the pressure on after the restart and finally got their reward. Casemiro’s effort caused chaos in the box and Diogo Dalot reacted quickest, sweeping the loose ball into the net to give us a deserved lead.

That should have been enough, but with seven minutes left West Ham snatched an equaliser. A corner dropped kindly for Soungoutou Magassa and he smashed it in from close range, leaving United to take a point when all three had felt within reach.

Best reaction

After the match, Ruben Amorim spoke with the press and you could sense the frustration. He said: "We should have closed the game with the ball because the game was there to win. We knew that we needed to defend the advantage far from our goal but the long ball, Bowen won the first touch and took it to the corner and tried to win the corner. They won the corner and we cannot suffer a goal."

Josh was stood in the Stretford End, he said: "Really annoying. We should be winning games like that."

This was a view supported by Leigh who added: "Frustrating at home again. Missed a chance yo build on what was an impressive win against Palace."
