United Review | Newcastle at Wembley | 2023 EFL Cup Final
United 2 - 0 Newcastle
We’re back lifting silverware at last.

After six long years, we are trophy winners again, beating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
How the trophy was won
Casemiro set us on our way with a brilliant header midway through the first half, before Marcus Rashford’s strike took a deflection off Sven Botman to double the lead.
Newcastle had their moments after the break, forcing David De Gea into a couple of saves.
United kept the pressure on though as Ten Hag’s side pushed for a third. Bruno Fernandes burst forward alongside Rashford in a two-against-one break, but Kieran Trippier managed to recover just in time to make a vital block.
Not long after, Fernandes sent a pinpoint long ball out to Rashford on the left, who linked up neatly with substitute Jadon Sancho before laying it off for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The right-back tried his luck from range, but Karius was equal to it.
The full-time whistle was then blown. For Erik ten Hag, this season has been a dream start. His first season in charge, and already his first trophy. The foundations of a new era feel well and truly laid.
