| Applauding the away end |
Igor Thiago struck twice inside the opening 20 minutes, punishing slack defending to put the hosts firmly in control. Benjamin Sesko halved the deficit with his first goal since his summer arrival switch, offering the fans in the away end some hope.
That hope grew when Brentford captain Nathan Collins hauled down Bryan Mbeumo in the box, handing Fernandes the chance to level. After a lengthy stoppage, including a VAR red card check and two Brentford substitutions, Bruno's low strike was superbly saved by Caoimhin Kelleher.

Brentford sealed victory in stoppage time when Mathias Jensen powered a shot past Altay Bayindir from the edge of the area. The result leaves Amorim still searching for back-to-back league wins almost a year into his reign at Old Trafford. Where on earth do we go from here?
Best fan reaction | Time to change the manager?
Gaz: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. By that measure, Amorim is completely mad. As a lifelong United supporter of more than 60 years, I cannot watch this any longer. We have the players but no system; it is chaos. I will not watch another game until either the manager changes his formation or he is replaced. It is not so much losing as the way we lose.
Alvin: Another nail in the coffin. Dead ducks in the water. Could not beat a drum. These words barely capture the state of our club right now.
Samuel: Once again we delivered a shambolic defensive performance and failed to break down their opponent. These are issues that even an average coach should be able to address in training. Amorim has had the whole week with the players and still cannot fix their problems. He will not change, so he must go. Bring in an average coach, he is hopeless.
Martin: A Sunday league manager could do better. Every manager must be able to adjust the way a team plays and change formations, but he refuses to alter his system. Will the board allow this to continue, or are they frozen, waiting for something that will never happen? This is relegation form. They need to admit their mistake and move him on.
Steven: How long is this going to be tolerated? The team and the manager are in complete disarray. I feel for Amorim in some ways, but clearly his latest attempt to restore the club to even a competent Premier League side has failed spectacularly. I do not know what the solution is, but this current setup is not it.
Tony: Who would want to replace Amorim? Nobody wants to manage a team of losers. From goalkeeper to captain to substitutes, this is a squad made up of players who would not even make it in League Two.
