Amorim’s side will be looking to put our third win on the board on Saturday, to add to victories against Chelsea and Burnley, after a tough start to our campaign.

Rather surprisingly, given the fate of promoted sides over the past few seasons, Sunderland have kicked off their season well, striding towards the top of the table with just one loss in their first six outings.

That defeat came against Burnley, whom the Reds defeated at Old Trafford towards the end of August, so Amorim will have all eyes on ending their positive streak.

United team news

United will again be without Noussair Mazraoui, who is not expected to return until after the international break, and Lisandro Martínez, who remains in rehabilitation following the knee injury sustained earlier this year.

Casemiro is available once more after serving a one-match suspension at the weekend, having collected two yellow cards in the victory over Chelsea.

Amorim is likely to provide further updates in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunderland’s visit, which may include news on former Sunderland loanee Amad. The winger has been granted compassionate leave following a family bereavement.

Sunderland team news

Sunderland will be without Habib Diarra, Leo Hjelde, Romaine Mundle and Dennis Cirkin, all sidelined through injury, while Reinildo is suspended after his straight red card against Aston Villa.

Ajibola Alese is closing in on a return having been absent since January, while Luke O’Nien was named on the bench at Nottingham Forest after the injury he sustained in the play-off final against Sheffield United.

Manager Régis Le Bris is expected to give a wider update on squad availability in his media duties before the match.
