A good performance and another win. Madness.

Ruben Amorim’s side seized control midway through the first half, with Matheus Cunha marking his first goal for United after 24 minutes. Casemiro added a second soon after, his effort taking a helpful deflection as the hosts tightened their grip on proceedings.

Bryan Mbeumo stretched the lead to three shortly after the interval, yet former United striker Danny Welbeck offered Brighton a lifeline by bending a free-kick into the net. Charalampos Kostoulas heightened the tension further in stoppage time with a close-range finish that narrowed the deficit to one.

Any nerves inside the stadium were swiftly eased, though, as Mbeumo struck again deep into added time to secure the points. The win nudged United into fourth place in the Premier League table, at least for the moment, and provided another sign of momentum building under Amorim.

Another turning point?

Three weeks ago, we were heading into a game against Sunderland with everyone whispering that Ruben Amorim could be out the door if things went wrong. They had just beaten Chelsea and were sitting pretty in the Champions League spots, so the nerves were very real. The club hierarchy insisted there was nothing in the rumours and Sir Jim Ratcliffe has since said the same loudly and proudly.

Still, that was the mood at the time. Tension everywhere.

United did the business, a comfortable Old Trafford win that felt like a throwback to the proper Sir Alex days when three points at home were almost guaranteed. Then came Liverpool away. A first win at Anfield since 2016. A moment fans have been craving for years.

And now Brighton. A team who have become a constant thorn in our side and seemed to relish turning us over. Not this time. United stood up, took control and finally put that irritating hoodoo to bed. It is starting to feel like momentum, the kind we have been waiting far too long to experience again.
