We booked our spot in the FA Cup semi-finals with a thrilling, last-gasp 4-3 extra-time win over arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Before kick-off, most of the talk centred around Jurgen Klopp’s in-form Liverpool side, but it was United who came flying out of the blocks, pressing with real intent and purpose. That early energy paid off after just ten minutes when Alejandro Garnacho’s deflected strike was parried by Caoimhin Kelleher into the path of Scott McTominay, who smashed home from close range to ignite the home crowd.
Liverpool hit back before the break with goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah, turning the tie on its head and silencing Old Trafford, if only briefly. United kept pushing after the interval, and it was Erik ten Hag’s late substitutions that made the difference, with Antony levelling the scores in the dying moments to send the match into extra-time.
When Harvey Elliott put Liverpool back in front, it looked like the dream was slipping away. But Marcus Rashford had other ideas, firing home to level once more and lift the roof off the stadium. Then, in the very last seconds of the 120 minutes, Amad Diallo broke away with Garnacho and coolly finished to seal a famous victory. Queue, carnage across the ground.
A semi-final place secured and one of those unforgettable Old Trafford moments added to the history books.
Best reaction from around the ground
Jamie said: "Older Reds often talk about Barca in '84, Liverpool in '99, or the wins over city from Owen and Wayne Rooney. Now I feel like I have my own story. PSG away and McTominay against City in 2020 come close in the post-Sir Alex era, but this tops them all. That raw noise and those flailing limbs will stay with me for the rest of my life."
Liam C added: "Sometimes, this famous old ground of ours seems to fizz. It is the only way I can describe it. It is not a sound you can hear, but you can feel it, a sense that something extraordinary is about to happen. As Reds, we have seen our fair share of those moments, but yesterday was truly special."
Josh told us: "I did pause to reflect as I walked over the Stretford End bridge, having stayed in the ground for 20 minutes after full-time soaking it all in. I realised this is the game I will talk about for the rest of my life. This was one of those rare days that joins an elite group of matches where the raw noise of Old Trafford helps carry a team of fighters over the line to an incredible, almost unbelievable, result."
