After a fine start to the Women’s Champions League group campaign, with Maya Le Tissier converting a late penalty to secure a 1-0 win over Valerenga, the focus now shifts back to the league.

On Sunday, we’ll be looking to keep the momentum going on Merseyside and build on an encouraging start to the 2025/26 season. With the standards in the league constantly increasing, any dropped points could put a serious dent in United mounting a serious title bid or even qualifying for next season's Champions League.

In his pre-match press conference, Marc Skinner gave an update about the squad’s current situation, with Millie Turner, Leah Galton and Celin Bizet Donnum all missing from midweek action.

Skinner told the media: "It's the first day back in, we gave them the day off yesterday as it was a late-night game," said the United Women boss in his pre-match press conference. I believe we're checking in on Celin and that only then leaves Millie. Leah trains today and tomorrow, with a view to being in the squad for Sunday.

"Everybody else came through without any injuries. We're just checking on Celin, Millie is obviously out but everyone else should potentially be available."

A look at the opposition

It has been a mixed start for Brian Sorenson's Everton side this season, with just one win and one draw so far leaving them in ninth place in the WSL table.

The Toffees began with a bang, thrashing Liverpool 4-1 on the opening day, but that momentum quickly faded with defeats to Tottenham, London City, Manchester City in the League Cup, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Everton drew 1-1 with Leicester City last time out, with former Barcelona star Ornella Vignola scoring their only goal. Vignola tops their goalscoring charts with four strikes this season, three of which came in that memorable win over Liverpool last month.
