United Rumour | Sources indicate club interest in Elliot Anderson

We are reportedly intensifying our pursuit of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.

Sources have indicated that we are confident of securing a deal, despite Forest’s firm stance on demanding a substantial fee.

His energetic displays in midfield have caught the eye of United’s boss, Ruben Amorim, who sources say is desperate to inject more dynamism and legs into his engine room.

Why is Ruben interested?

Elliot Anderson has been one of the few bright spots in a tough season for Nottingham Forest. The 22-year-old England international, who made the £35 million move from Newcastle last summer, has quickly become a vital figure at the City Ground.

What’s really caught Manchester United’s attention is his ability to split defences with sharp, forward-thinking passes. It’s the kind of quality that would fit perfectly under Ruben Amorim, whose style favours quick, incisive football rather than slow, methodical build-up play.

In a campaign that’s already seen Forest change managers twice, Anderson’s performances have stood out as a rare positive.

Is this a move for the summer rather than January?

According to Sky, we are not expected to sign anyone in the mid-season window. This is despite a number of players competing in AFCON, which could see them unavailable for several weeks.

It had previously been suggested that INEOS have identified Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and the aforementioned Anderson as their three main transfer targets for this role, with one (or potentially two) expected to arrive next year.

Liam C added: “We should be targeting the best players in the PL. So he fits the bill; up to those running the club and our transfers to get the value down. I don't think we are in the position to spend 100m on one player, though. It's just too much pressure on the player.”
