Manchester United made it five wins from seven in the Women’s Super League with a hard-fought victory over Brighton.

It was never going to be easy on the south coast. Brighton had only lost twice in their previous 14 WSL home games and United had been held to draws in each of the last two visits to Crawley. But Marc Skinner’s side showed real quality and character to get the job done.

Jess Park returned to the starting line-up after missing the Champions League win in Madrid and England duty due to concussion. The October Player of the Month wasted no time making an impact, grabbing a goal and an assist in a standout display. Celin Bizet Donnum missed out with a back issue, while Leah Galton was ruled out through illness.

Brighton took the lead just before half-time through former United player Elisabeth Terland, but Park hit back to level things up before setting up Lisa Naalsund to put the Reds in front. Fran Kirby made it 2-1 to the hosts, yet United responded again to regain control.

Kiko Seike pulled one back late on to make it 3-2 and set up a nervy finish, but United held firm to claim another vital three points.

There was also a heartwarming moment late in the game as Hannah Blundell made her first appearance since giving birth in March, returning to action against the club she grew up supporting.

A big result, a gritty performance, and another step forward in what’s shaping up to be a very promising season for the Reds.
