The hosts struck first through an unfortunate Lisandro Martínez own goal, but United responded in exactly the right way. A lapse from Martin Zubimendi was seized upon, and Bryan Mbeumo made no mistake to haul us level and settle the nerves.
Just after the break, Patrick Dorgu absolutely lashed United into the lead, sending the away end into raptures and putting Carrick’s side in control.
There was late drama, of course. Mikel Merino bundled in an equaliser on 84 minutes and it looked as though Arsenal might go on to find a winner and restore their seven-point cushion at the top. Instead, United had the final word. With the Gunners overcommitted, Matheus Cunha bent a superb finish into the corner to seal a memorable win,
