The visitors had been reduced to 10 men with less than 30 minutes played when Cristian Romero was dismissed for a mistimed challenge on Casemiro.
A debut for youngster Tyler Fletcher, towards the end, capped another enjoyable afternoon at Old Trafford.
Bruno shines again
Bruno Fernandes led by example throughout the match, creating six chances for his team-mates over the 90 minutes and adding a moment of real quality with the finishing touch to Diogo Dalot’s inviting cross to double our lead.
Our captain was also at the heart of the clever corner routine that produced the opening goal. Speaking afterwards, Bruno acknowledged that representing a club of United’s stature brings its own pressure, but stressed that it is something you have to embrace and learn to handle.
Mainoo was also outstanding
The opening goal came from a slick, pre-planned corner routine that caught the visitors cold. Kobbie Mainoo peeled away to receive Bruno Fernandes’ pass on the byline, before showing great awareness to flick the ball back towards the edge of the box with a single touch.
From there, Mbeumo did the rest. One touch was all he needed to guide his effort into the bottom corner, threading it through a packed penalty area and giving the goalkeeper no chance.
