Maguire has been in great form and played a big role in Michael Carrick’s side rising to third in the Premier League table with seven games left to play.
He has also been recalled by England for the first time since September 2024 and is desperate to play in the World Cup this summer.
Maguire, who moved to Old Trafford from Leicester City for £80 million in 2019, could have left United at the end of this season as there was plenty of concrete interest in him.
Four Serie A clubs, three Premier League clubs and one Turkish side wanted to sign him in what would have been a free transfer deal.
However, Maguire has opted to extend his stay at Old Trafford which is something that we believe is great news.
United view Maguire’s experience as vital
Maguire’s experience is proving invaluable right now, especially at a club where there is genuine belief that Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven can grow into a long-term centre-back partnership.
His return from injury in January came at the same time as Carrick’s arrival, and there has been a noticeable difference. This time, Maguire did not rush himself back when he was only close to full fitness. He waited until he was completely ready, and United are seeing the benefits of that decision. With Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez both sidelined, his presence has been even more important.
Frustratingly, he will not be involved in the next game against Leeds United on Monday night after being sent off against Bournemouth last month.
