United News | Kobbie Mainoo signs new contract

Let me put you in the picture, let me show you what I mean

Kobbie Mainoo has put pen to paper on a new deal running until 2031, finally ending months of uncertainty over his future.

The midfielder had signed his previous contract just before breaking into the first team in 2023, with that deal set to run until 2027 and including the option of a further year.

The Stockport-born academy lad found opportunities limited under former boss Ruben Amorim, which led to him pushing for a loan move to Napoli during the January window.

United knocked that back, making it clear they see Mainoo as a big part of the club’s future and wanted him to stay and prove himself.

Since Amorim’s exit in January, Mainoo has been right back in the fold, starting all but one of the 12 league games under interim manager Michael Carrick, with the only absence coming through injury in the 2-1 defeat to Leeds.

What do you think?

Garry: This is exactly the kind of news every United fan has been waiting for.

Trevor: A very good footballer and I am pleased he has signed. Onwards and upwards for Mainoo and United

Sara: This is the sort of young talent United should be building around, both now and in the long term. It is hard to believe we came so close to losing him because of previous mismanagement.
