A closer analysis of what happened

Luke Shaw’s early effort put United in control and helped the Reds secure third place in the Premier League after an entertaining victory on a lively afternoon at Old Trafford.

United could easily have been further ahead before the break but were punished early in the second half when Elliot Anderson delivered an excellent cross for Morato to power home a header.

The response from United was immediate

Matheus Cunha calmly swept past Matz Sels to restore the lead, with the Stretford End erupting once the lengthy VAR check finally confirmed the goal. Our No 10 celebrated wildly as Old Trafford roared its approval.

With around 15 minutes left, the stadium burst into life again as Fernandes whipped a dangerous ball into the box and Bryan Mbeumo applied the finish. The assist took the Portuguese midfielder to 20 for the season, drawing him level with the Premier League record.

Morgan Gibbs-White’s neat finish ensured a tense ending, although United still looked the more likely side to score again as the Reds continued their strong finish to the campaign.

Tribute to Casemiro on his last home game

There was a heartfelt tribute to Casemiro ahead of his final appearance at Old Trafford, creating an emotional atmosphere inside the stadium.

Before kick-off, fans in the Stretford unveiled a large tifo in honour of the Brazilian midfielder, celebrating his leadership and key role since arriving at the club.
