It's time for the club to make a big decision

Should Marcus Rashford remain with the club in the upcoming season?

What exactly is Marcus Rashford? Is he a good player or not? Is he good enough for Manchester United, Barcelona or even the Turkish Super Lig? Does he have a future under Michael Carrick at United? And, perhaps most importantly, do United fans actually want him back?

There are plenty more questions to answer

Because few current United players are as puzzling or divisive as Rashford right now. This is a player who, as his chant proudly reminds us, is Manc born and bred. 

A product of the United academy who has made more than 400 appearances for the club and produced plenty of outstanding moments along the way. A winner of the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. An FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup winner in United colours. An England international and a recent World Cup goalscorer.

And yet Rashford's return to Old Trafford this summer has sparked plenty of debate among supporters. His 18 months away from the club on loan, following his very public falling-out with former manager Ruben Amorim, have created a clear distance between Rashford and the United fanbase. Is he still our boy? The old saying goes that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but that certainly does not seem to have happened here.

For many supporters, it is the way Rashford left the United stage in January 2025 that remains difficult to overlook. Amorim once said the forward was someone who "doesn't give the maximum every day", while his attitude and performances in training came under scrutiny. There have also been occasional off-field controversies, including the unsanctioned night out in Belfast during Erik ten Hag's reign.

On the other hand, there's something to be said about the constant changing and toxic nature of the club. Rashford, as a still relatively young player, experienced a lot in a short space of time. For all his faults, maybe the club and those various managers have to take some (or a lot) of the blame.

Perhaps controversially now, I still think it would still be great to see Rashford back at his best in a United shirt. A motivated Marcus Rashford, even when you factor in those hefty wages, could potentially save the club a sizeable amount of money in the transfer market.
