Manchester United Women have ushered in a new era with the appointment of Eva Olid as new head coach.

The 40-year-old has signed a contract at Old Trafford until June 2028, with United holding the option to extend the deal by another year.

It is an exciting appointment for the club and one that feels like another important step towards building a Manchester United Women side capable of competing at the very highest level for years to come.

The club have said they are laying the foundations for that future, with a clear emphasis on developing homegrown talent and bringing young players through alongside established senior internationals. The club has also made significant investment in Academy infrastructure and facilities as it looks to create one of the best youth development systems in the country.

Whether this is going to actually happen or is just meaningless speak is another question entirely.

Olid certainly arrives with an impressive track record.

She made history during her time with Heart of Midlothian Women, overseeing the most successful period in the club's history. Having taken Hearts from the second tier of Scottish football, Olid guided them to a historic first Scottish Women's Premier League title, secured in May.

That achievement rightly earned plenty of recognition, with Olid named both SWPL Manager of the Season and PFA Scotland SWPL Manager of the Year.

Described as a progressive and innovative coach, Olid now has the chance to make her mark at Manchester United.

For United supporters, there is plenty to be excited about. The foundations are being put in place, the club has made its ambitions clear and Olid's arrival could prove to be a major moment in the next chapter of Manchester United Women's story.
