In the end, a frustrating ending to the afternoon. However, plenty to be positive about.

Benjamin Šeško looked to have delivered another late winner against the Toffees, putting United 2-1 ahead in the 88th minute and seemingly setting up a second successive season in which he would score a decisive goal at Everton.
However, Maitland-Niles had other ideas. Making his debut for the hosts, he struck deep into stoppage time to leave United with just a point from a frustrating trip to the blue half of Merseyside.
After a goalless first half, Bryan Mbeumo gave the Reds the perfect start to the second period, finding the net inside the opening minute to put United ahead.

That advantage looked set to be enough until Tyrique George restored parity with seven minutes remaining, before Šeško appeared to have won it for United moments later.
Instead, Maitland-Niles' late winner completed a dramatic ending to the afternoon. Two dropped points. Roll on the return of the Champions League.

When talking about some of our defensive issues, Carrick said: “The mentality is there. I think there's obviously things we need to get better at as a team. That's two strikes from distance, really, two really good strikes from their point of view, so sometimes they fly in the top corner, and more often than not, they probably don't, so there's a little bit of that. But yeah, obviously we can't ignore it.
"We need to concede less goals to give us a better chance of winning games, but we'll certainly look at that and keep improving.”
Carrick was more positive about our attacking play: “Some of the attacking play through the pitch was really good today. We know that we can do certain things really well and the attackers did well to score two goals. But to not win the game, that’s the disappointing thing."
He was also full of praise for Marcus Rashford, saying: "Yeah, he's done very well. As I said during the week, he’s done ever so well since he came back. I thought he looked really sharp again today and dangerous. That final little moment didn't quite drop for him, but nevertheless, I thought he created really good opportunities, and there was a big threat throughout the game.”
